This e-gift card is for the carpark and shuttle service for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Tongariro Crossing Car Park provides the only secure car park and shuttle service for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing Hike.

Park your vehicle in our monitored, safe and secure car park & join our local, knowledgeable drivers who share culturally significant stories on a short 30 minute drive to the start of the crossing at Mangatepopo. 

Our shuttles pick you up from our carpark every hour from 6am to 9am on weekends and weekdays and transport you to the start of the track at Mangatepopo. Pickup times may vary during the season depending on prior booking numbers and demand, or forecasted adverse mountain weather conditions. 

Be aware that there are other operators that promise to pick you up from Ketetahi, but they require you to park on the side of the main highway, with zero security. 

Hazard Awareness -TONGARIRO ALPINE CROSSING

Alpine environment: The hike is exposed alpine terrain with rapidly changing weather conditions at all times of the year. It is common to experience strong wind, high rainfall, heavy snowfall and rapid changes in temperature, even in summer. Check the weather forecast on the NIWA website for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing (Red Crater):

Volcanic risk: This is an active volcanic area and eruptions are possible at any time without warning posing risk of serious harm and even death. Active volcanic vents on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing are Mount Ngauruhoe, Red Crater, Te Maari Craters and Ketetahi Springs. Volcanic hazard zones surround all of these vents. If you are within one of these areas when an eruption happens, you may be in danger. Know the volcanic risks and what to do in an eruption. Check the latest volcanic alert levels and activity information before you go, at the Tongariro National Park Visitor Centre (07) 892 3729 and/or on the Geonet website:

If Tongariro is at any level above Volcanic Alert Level 0, the track will close and we will not operate until the Department of Conservation, DOC (who manage the Tongariro National Park) advise it is safe for the trail to re-open. Winter snow: Do not attempt this trip when snow is present unless you are experienced in the backcountry and have an ice axe, crampons and are experienced in avalanche terrain. Visit www.avalanche.net.nz for updated avalanche forecasts on Tongariro. In winter, the use of a guide is highly recommended and from our view, a must.
